BLEPHAROPLASTY - EYELID SURGERY

You may be a good candidate for blepharoplasty if you experience: Excess or hooded skin on the upper eyelids that affects your appearance or, in some cases, your vision Puffiness, bagging or laxity beneath the lower eyelids Good general health and realistic expectations of surgical outcomes are also important factors. Blepharoplasty is performed as a surgical procedure under the care of Dr Robert George, with the specific technique tailored to your individual anatomy and goals. Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty Excess skin, and in some cases a small amount of underlying fat, is carefully removed through an incision placed within the natural eyelid crease. This helps to reduce hooding and create a more open, refreshed appearance, with the resulting scar well concealed within the natural fold of the eyelid. Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty Excess skin, fat or both may be addressed depending on your individual presentation. This can be performed through: An incision just below the lash line In some cases, an incision on the inside of the eyelid depending on the specific concerns being treated. What to expect: A comprehensive consultation and assessment with Dr Robert George The procedure is generally performed under local anaesthetic with sedation, or general anaesthetic depending on the extent of surgery Surgery typically takes between 1 to 2 hours depending on whether one or both eyelids, and upper, lower or both areas, are being treated Fine sutures are used to close the incisions, which are typically removed within the first week A full pre and post operative plan will be provided by Dr Robert George.

Before Your Procedure Attend all pre operative consultations and follow Dr Robert George’s specific instructions Avoid blood thinning medications and supplements as advised by your surgeon Arrange for someone to accompany you home and assist you for the first 24 to 48 hours Avoid smoking in the lead up to surgery, as advised by your surgeon After Your Procedure Apply cold compresses as directed to manage swelling and bruising in the early days Keep your head elevated, including while sleeping, for the first week Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting and bending for the period advised by your surgeon Avoid contact lenses until cleared by your surgeon Protect the eye area from sun exposure and wear sunglasses when outdoors Attend all follow up appointments for suture removal and progress review Some bruising, swelling and dryness of the eyes is expected in the first 1 to 2 weeks Full results continue to settle over several weeks to months as residual swelling resolves
