Anyone experiencing unwanted pigmentation — whether recent or long-standing — is suitable for assessment. Melasma requires specialist management given its tendency to recur, its hormonal drivers, and its sensitivity to heat-based treatments. Skin tone (Fitzpatrick type) is a critical factor in treatment selection — darker skin types require careful, conservative approaches to avoid worsening pigmentation. Our multi-modal approach: Medical-grade topical therapy (tranexamic acid, kojic acid, azelaic acid, or prescription depigmenting agents — prescribed by Dr George where clinically indicated) — Micro-needling with boosters (delivers tyrosinase-inhibiting and brightening actives such as vitamin C, niacinamide, and tranexamic acid deep into the dermis; particularly effective for PIH and melasma where heat-based treatments are contra-indicated) — Chemical peels (mandelic, lactic, glycolic, or TCA selected by skin type and pigmentation depth) — PicoSure laser (picosecond photoacoustic mechanism shatters melanin without significant heat, reducing rebound hyperpigmentation risk — ideal for freckles, sun damage, and sensitive skin types) — CO2 laser (for deeply embedded pigmentation and textural irregularities in appropriate skin types). Melasma note: Melasma is a chronic condition with hormonal and UV-driven components. Ongoing management and strict daily SPF 50+ use are the most important factors in preventing recurrence

Pre: SPF 50+ use for at least 4 weeks before any pigmentation treatment — mandatory. Cease retinoids 5 days before most treatments. Avoid sun exposure for 4 weeks before laser sessions. Inform Renee and Dr George of all medications, contraceptives, and supplements. Post: SPF 50+ daily without exception — UV exposure immediately causes pigmentation recurrence and undoes treatment results. Avoid heat, steam, and sweating for 48 hrs post-peel or post-needling. Follow the prescribed home care regime precisely. Expect gradual improvement over a series of treatments. Attend all follow-up appointments so Renee can monitor progress and adjust protocols
