ROSACEA

Facial redness, flushing, visible blood vessels or recurring bumps can be frustrating, particularly when you don't know what is triggering your skin or how to calm it down

.

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that commonly affects the face. It can cause persistent redness, episodes of flushing, visible blood vessels and, in some people, red bumps or pustules that can look similar to acne.

Rosacea can vary significantly from person to person, and there is no single treatment that works for everyone. While there is currently no cure, rosacea can often be effectively managed with the right combination of treatment, trigger management and ongoing skin care.

At LIFE X CLINICS, your rosacea treatment begins with a thorough skin assessment with Renee to understand your symptoms, triggers, severity and individual skin concerns. From there, we develop a personalised treatment plan designed around your presentation.

Red face, flushing or visible blood vessels?

If your face frequently appears red, feels hot or flushes easily, you may be experiencing one of the common presentations of rosacea.

Rosacea can look different depending on the individual. Some people primarily experience persistent redness, while others develop visible blood vessels, acne-like bumps or irritation around the eyes.

Understanding what is contributing to your symptoms is an important first step in determining which treatments may be suitable.

What are the different types of rosacea?

Rosacea can present in several different ways, and some people experience features of more than one type.

Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea - This type is commonly associated with persistent facial redness, flushing and visible small blood vessels.

Papulopustular rosacea - This presentation involves redness alongside red bumps and pustules, which can sometimes be mistaken for acne.

Phymatous rosacea - involves thickening of the skin, most commonly affecting the nose. It can result in a more enlarged or uneven skin texture.

Ocular rosacea - affects the eyes and may cause redness, irritation, dryness or a gritty sensation. Eye symptoms should be assessed appropriately and may require co-management with an eye care professional.

What causes rosacea flare-ups?

Rosacea triggers vary from person to person. Common triggers can include:

Sun exposure

Heat and cold

Sudden temperature changes

Spicy foods

Alcohol

Stress

Certain skincare products or ingredients

Hot drinks

Exercise or other factors that increase body temperature

Identifying your individual triggers can help reduce the frequency or severity of flare-ups.

During your consultation, we will discuss your skin and any patterns you have noticed so you can better understand what may be contributing to your symptoms.

Your rosacea consultation

Every rosacea treatment plan begins with a complimentary skin consultation with Renee.

During your consultation, we will assess your skin and discuss:

Your primary concerns

Facial redness and flushing

Visible blood vessels

Any bumps or pustules

Your skin sensitivity and reactivity

Potential triggers

Your current skincare routine

Previous treatments

Your treatment goals

This helps us determine which treatment options may be suitable for your individual presentation.

Rosacea treatment at LIFE X CLINICS

There is no single treatment for rosacea. The most appropriate approach depends on your symptoms, skin, rosacea presentation and severity.

Depending on your individual needs, treatment may include:

IPL for facial redness and visible blood vessels

IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, can be used to target the appearance of redness and visible blood vessels associated with some forms of rosacea.

IPL delivers carefully controlled pulses of light to the skin, with treatment parameters selected according to your skin and the area being treated.

Laser treatment for persistent visible blood vessels

For some patients with more prominent or persistent vascular changes, laser treatment may be considered.

Laser therapy can provide more targeted treatment of individual or stubborn visible blood vessels when other approaches have not provided the desired response.

Medical treatment

Some forms of rosacea, particularly persistent inflammatory presentations, may benefit from prescription medical treatment.

Where appropriate, you may be referred for medical assessment and prescription treatment alongside your in-clinic skin treatments.
